DAY 1 (SATURDAY, MAY 11): MASTERING THE BUTTERFLY TECHNIQUE

Join Catching Water’s exclusive swimming clinic for Butterfly Technique, led by two-time Olympian Santiago Grassi and South-African Champion Josh Dannhauser. This clinic offers a unique opportunity to learn essential skills from athletes who understand the intricacies of competitive swimming.

Mastering the butterfly technique can significantly enhance your performance in the pool. Butterfly is a demanding stroke that requires proper technique for optimal speed and efficiency. Proper body alignment, pull, and kick are essential components of a successful butterfly stroke. A streamlined body position reduces drag, allowing you to move through the water with less resistance. The pull phase engages your upper body muscles to propel you forward, while the dolphin kick provides additional propulsion from your lower body. Improving these aspects of your butterfly stroke can lead to faster times and a more competitive edge in the water.

By attending this clinic, you’ll gain insights and techniques that can only come from those who have dedicated themselves to the sport. Don’t miss this chance to elevate your swimming skills and take your performance to the next level.

CURRICULUM:

BODYLINE: Maintaining a streamlined body position is crucial for speed in butterfly. Even small adjustments in chin, neck, or back position can affect performance. This clinic focuses on teaching correct posture and activating core muscles to build a strong foundation for superior technique. This approach enhances hydrodynamics and stroke efficiency.

KICK: Butterfly uses two kicks per stroke to propel the swimmer. Proper timing and balance in these kicks can greatly improve efficiency and rhythm. Participants will learn when and how to execute these kicks for maximum velocity while maintaining control and coordination.

PULL: Long, fluid strokes are key to an effective butterfly technique. The pulling phase provides propulsion, and learning the concept of the early vertical forearm, or “the catch,” is essential. This technique allows swimmers to exert pressure on the water early, leading to better forward propulsion and faster progress.

TIMING: Breath timing is critical in butterfly, impacting body alignment, pull, kick, and overall swim times. Participants will learn a specific breath timing strategy, focusing on keeping the chin low during breathing. Understanding when to breathe within the stroke cycle is crucial for an efficient stroke and optimal performance in the water.
